My Winter Favourites: Burgundy, Fondant & a Little Bit of Attitude

This winter, my wardrobe story basically wrote itself: deep burgundy outerwear, dark-chocolate leather, inky denim, and one very chic red dress for when I want to look “effortless” (but we all know that’s a lie). It’s surprising to see how my palette has shifted from blue to red. Is that a sign? This season, I’m unusually obsessed with red.

Here’s what earned a permanent place in heavy rotation—plus a few supporting players that make these pieces work even harder.

1) The Yves Salomon “A-line” Puffer in Burgundy (with fox-fur collar)

Earlier this winter, I was on the hunt for a short down jacket that’s both warm and lightweight. I love down jackets and coats—especially the ones that look elegant and blend seamlessly with my mostly classic wardrobe. If it’s too sporty, it throws the whole look off. This puffer has structure, polish, and that rich burgundy that makes makes it sophisticated an makes it easy to wear at the same timel. It’s an A-line shape, water-repellent, insulated for cold weather, and the hood + fox collar trim are removable, which is what keeps it from feeling too sporty.

How I wear it

  • With slim black denim denim or leather pants and a clean boot (keep the silhouette sharp).

  • With tonal accessories (burgundy + chocolate is magic).

  • Collar on for drama, collar off for “city errands but make it fashion.”

2) The Boots: Aquazzura “Boogie Cowboy Bootie 70” in Black Suede

A Western-ish ankle boot that still reads fashion (not costume). They’re made in Italy, black suede, pointed toe, with a comfortable mid heel—aka the kind of boot you can actually live in.

What they do best

  • Instantly modernize denim.

  • Look great under midi hems (especially knit or fluid fabrics).

  • Add just enough edge to a classic coat-and-bag situation.

3) The Jeans: Khaite “Viv” High-Rise Slim-Leg in Black

This is the “base layer” piece that makes everything else look more expensive. They’re high-rise, slim-leg, classic five-pocket styling, and the fabric blend is 98% cotton / 2% polyurethane

My formula

  • Black jeans + burgundy puffer + sleek boot = done.

  • Black jeans + sharp blazer + red lip = instant dinner look.

4) The Bag: Bottega Veneta Small Veneta in Fondant

This bag is the quiet star of the show: that deep brown “Fondant” reads rich, not harsh, and it plays beautifully with burgundy (I love the juxtaposition—dark chocolate against wine tones).

Details-wise, it’s padded intrecciato leather, suede-lined, with a zip closure (practical!), and it’s a great day-to-night size (21 cm high / 35 cm wide / 5 cm deep).

5) The Belt: CELINE Triomphe Small Belt (mine in Deep Burgundy)

This is the piece that quietly pulls an outfit together. The Triomphe buckle does the “signature” thing without shouting.

Specs-wise, it’s 100% calfskin, 1.8 cm wide, with a Triomphe buckle and gold finishing. (The 24S listing shows “Tan,” but the model details are the same—yours is that gorgeous deep burgundy.)

Where it shines

  • Over a knit dress or chunky cardigan.

  • With high-rise denim + a tucked cashmere knit.

  • To give shape to winter layers without looking fussy.

6) The Dress: Victoria Beckham Dolman Midi Dress in Red

This is the “walk in and own the room” dress—minimal, elegant, and so VB. It’s a fluid cady with a round neckline, softly shaped waist, and midi hem, plus those cool details like zipped sleeves and a draped underarm. Composition: 50% viscose / 47% acetate / 3% elastane (dry clean only).

How I’d style it in winter

  • With a long classic coat and the black Aquazzura booties.

  • With sheer black tights + simple gold jewelry.

  • Hair pulled back, because the dress already does the talking.

The Supporting Cast I Always Reach For (Worth Adding)

A few extras that make these hero items feel endlessly wearable:

  • A long, classic wool coat (camel or charcoal) for “grown-up” days.

  • A grey cashmere crewneck (perfect under the burgundy puffer).

  • Black leather gloves and a good scarf (instant polish).

  • Sheer black tights for the VB dress + midi hems.

  • A simple gold hoop + red lipstick combo for winter “I tried” energy.

3 Easy Outfit Formulas (No Overthinking Required)

  1. Burgundy Puffer + Black Khaite Jeans + Black Suede Booties + Fondant Bottega

(My favourite colour story: burgundy + dark brown + black.)

  2. Classic Coat + VB Red Dress + Black Booties

(Minimal, chic, and zero styling drama.)

  3. Cashmere Knit + Black Jeans + CELINE Belt + Bottega Bag

(Looks polished even if you’re running on coffee and willpower.)
